MUST HAVE EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION SKILLS Description: REPORTS TO: Manager of Business Intelligence JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY: • The purpose of the Essbase architect is to provide expertise in starting up the Essbase environment and integration to our Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) suite of tools. This individual is experienced maintaining, creating, and documenting Essbase databases, as well as, dimensional modeling for helping to create Corporate data warehouse. This individual can build multi- dimensional cubes for decision support or OLAP systems. This individual must understand data warehouse analysis and design as it relates to fact / qualifier analysis and how it applies to Essbase cube development. Data warehousing experience is a must. Similarly, this individual must be responsible for the entire lifecycle of the Corporate OLAP environment. As a secondary responsibility, this individual will be required to develop ETL for the corporate data warehouse utilizing Oracle’s Data Integrator (ODI) product. • The Essbase architect will work under the general guidance of the manager and for specific tasks associated with the project plan. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: • Essbase developer and technical lead on establishing Corporate Essbase vision, development and production environments. • Provide development OLAP leadership and ability to mentor team members for continued professional and technical growth in Essbase. • Expert in data modeling concepts (star schema, snowflake schemas, normalized & de-normailized data models), and familiar with data modeling tools such as Erwin. • Expert in data warehouse requirements gathering, analysis & design, particular using the fact / qualifier models. • Semantic and subject modeling techniques for the “big-picture” view • Document business requirements, design, develop, test and implement application solutions that meet both business process requirements and efficiency goals. Perform data extraction/data load (ETL) process into Essbase cubes, including developing and modifying load scripts, custom calculations, business rules, etc. • Managing the change requests and doing the impact analysis on Data Warehouse and OLAP • Working with stakeholders to do the upstream and downstream impact analysis of a change request. For example, a change in Data Warehouse model could impact the ETL routines for getting the data from the source systems. • Conducts ETL process design and sizing estimates for large scale data warehousing projects. • Develops, tests, and implements extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) processes. • Responsible for prototyping solutions, preparing test scripts, and conducting tests and for data replication, extraction, transformation, loading, cleansing, and data modeling for data warehouses. • Provide ongoing support for existing applications and ensure that recurring processing schedules and deliverables are met. • Produce detail functional and technical documentation for all phases of the data warehouse. • Core Competencies • Action / Results Oriented – Achieves high level, sustainable performance and results; is bottom-line oriented; steadfastly pushes sel and encourages others to grasp ownership for achieving timely, quality, agreed upon results; is highly energetic; not fearful of acting with less than complete data and planning; seizes opportunities and acts upon them; displays a sense of urgency. • Business Savvy – Works to understand business practices to current responsibilities; understands the role of different functions and the interplay among them. • Customer Orientation – Understands and meets the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers; gets firsthand customer information and uses it to meet customers’ needs by providing the highest quality products and services; acts with customers in mind; develops effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect. • Analysis / Decision Making – Users logic and insight to solve problems and create effective solutions; uncovers hidden problems; is excellent at analysis; looks beyond the obvious and seeks root cause of problems; makes decisions in a timely manner, under tight deadlines and pressure; able to make decisions; supports calculated risk-taking; influences others to build support for decisions; includes others (as appropriate) in decisions making. QUALIFICATIONS: • 5-7 years experience with Essbase development • 3-5 years experience with BI modeling, Dimensional modeling • 1-3 years experience with ETL tool • End-to-end BI framework, and cross linkages across the components (from the source systems, ETL, staging, Data warehouse, OLAP, End-user tools..) • Education and/or experience • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field.
