Hi I'm pleased to announce the availability of VelOCRaptor, a simple Mac OCR utility based on OCRopus.
At present it will accept drops of JPEG and PNG, and single-page TIFF and PDF files, and writes a PDF of the image and overlaid text. Spotlight can index these files, and Preview or Adobe Reader allow you to copy the text. While I plan for VelOCRaptor to be a commercial product, it is currently a free download. If you have a Mac please drop by www.VelOCRaptor.com , try it out, and let me know what you think. Whilst I can't open-source the app, I am happy to discuss what we've done to get this far.
