If you want to see what's going on inside OCRopus, you now have a pretty simple option.
After going through the install process on the web page, you can run something like: ocropus-pages -d aim916.tiff This will perform recognition and show you both the page segmentation and the recognition of the individual characters in a debugging window. You can pan and zoom within that window to get a closer look. Hit ENTER in the terminal window to continue. Also, you're getting quite a bit of progress information and informational messages on the terminal. This should give you some basic information when you're wondering "why isn't it working". There are other tools for examining the process more closely, but they are more complicated to explain (we'll be documenting them soon).
