ok. I haven't been able to figure out if it's tesseract or ocropus, but
I think it's the latter as tesseract doesn't segfault when given the
non-page-layout-analyzed image.

ocropus tends to segfault when there are small pieces of
character-looking noise in the picture. Cleaning that out, everything
runs fine.
