I don't think this is correct. Pulseaudio is (from what I understand) able to deal with applications using the 'alsa' API. So, using 'alsa' should be just fine. I think the best short-term solution is to integrate Fredrik's functions into the 'audio' package. Would you like to help out with this? The help would be much appreciated.
