Well, at the end, you must decide. I should warn you however, that at
least data-smoothing and signal depend on optim. So, if they use one of
these functions, you might break them by accident.

Anyway, this boils down to hindering someone who works, which is not my
intention. Just move the functions. If things break and no one complains,
those packages should be dropped. And if things break and someone
complains, that person should start contributing.
