I used the following:

rsync -avP -e ssh --chmod=Du=rwx,Fu=rw,Dg=rwx,Fg=rw,Do=rx,Fo=r . 
cdf,oct...@web.sourceforge.net:htdocs/fl-core

and it seems to have worked, I'll check whether permissions are correct as soon 
as the shell service are up again.
