A new release (1.2.8) of the Java package has just been uploaded to the
package release forum.
For a number of reasons this release has been pending for a looong time.
Some final polishing took longer than expected (and hoped).

Could a site admin please put it into place, please?

This 1.2.8 release brings many enhancements (most of them implemented by
Martin Hepperle):
- Fairly extensive documentation (.info. .texi, .pdf, .html)
- Improved Matlab compatibility (javaMethod(), javaObject() )
- static and dynamic classpath (indeed, ML compatible)
- javarmpath() to further manipulate the dynamic classpath
- Java dialog box functions for interactive applications
- javamethods(<obj>) and javafields(<obj>) methods to investigate Java
objects for applicable methods and properties
- code clean-up: all warning messages during installation have been
taken care of
- works with both octave-3.2.x (possibly 3.0.x as well) and octave-3.4.+
(thanks to Soren)
- plus a number of smaller enhancements.

Philip
