Recognition is a warm-fuzzy thing all around. If there was a page on the Octave
site that noted contributions to Octave, that might be nice. It could be an
automated thing that just picks names from the source code, or it could be a
collection of brief manually written blurbs recognizing major contributions. I
imagine this would only make it easier for people to contribute.
