Juan Pablo, As far as I understand the difference between extra an main in the octave forge source tree has somewhat lost its meaning with the transition from monholithic release to separate packages. main used to contain packages of more general interest while extra used to contain those related to more "niche" applications. With the new distribution method for packages users won't even notice whether a package is in the main or extra subtree.
