Hey pals, unknown readers,

after the wonderful work of Richard (once again of o-hand.com fame) on the Caching I'm confident we can release a new version of BitBake before the end of this decade, aeh next week I mean. The chosen release version was 1.4 and some of the slogans are "It could suck more", "N g F i A", "El Cattivo"....

For the release process to proceed we need (for now):
-Many people testing this release. We need people to test it and report success and failure. Some more stuff on this later in this mail

Why this release is good:
-It fixes bugs in RPEPENDS handling
        -It speeds up BitBake
-It is way faster on parsing and cached loading
-It is way faster on stuff like building glibc
-It can build OpenEmbedded branches and .dev

What is still broken:
-Many of the known issues are still present
-poke of the bitbake shell is currently broken
        -your favorite issue

What will the next (major) release bring:
        -The C-Parser
        -More speed improvements
        -The fix for your issue
        -More test coverage (most important)

How to proceed (The Summary):
-Test bitbake 1.3.9 and report failure and success
-Feel free to improve the bitbake test suite
-We will copy trunk to the 1.4 branch and do bug fix releases from this branch
-Trunk will be open for more major changes

comments, ideas, money/donations?

        regards h.
