TERM varible is incorectly setup when using a VT
is T100 should be "linux" to enable colour for most programs.
configured in /etc/profile
posible ways of fixing:
detect if set already (in the case of xterm or such, if so dont change)
if stdin stdout are a tty (not psedo tty) then set to linux
else t100 (fallback)
