What do you say, gang?

I'm not a regular poster here, but if any students are interesting in taking on finishing the Linux on Treo 650 port, it might be a good summer-student-sized bit of work.

The only problem with this project would be that it would require a couple of hundred dollars of hardware (ie: the purchase of a used Treo 650 from eBay) to get it up and running. I don't know if this is possible within the confines of the project.

We have it up and running to the point where it boots and GPE/keypad/SD card works, but we could certainly offer someone a project to help polish up the rest of the work. I'd recommend either all or a subset of the following projects:

1. Cleaning up the port to the point where it would be acceptable to check in to hh.org. This requires moving the port from the hijacked Palm Lifedrive directory to a new Treo 650 directory and fixing up the machine number, as well up updating the port to the latest hh.org kernel verison.

2. Getting Gomunicator working on the Treo by finishing the reverse engineering of the GPIOs to activate the phone and serial port.

3. Getting something like Garux working on the 650 so that other people can enjoy and contribute to the port. This would need to be able boot the kernel and initrd from the SD card from PalmOS.

4. Getting bluetooth up and running by figuring out the userspace magic to make it happen.

It's basically a straight-forward PXA-270 Linux port, so there should be a great deal of mentoring experience available with us (the original porters of the Treo 650 Linux project) and the ton of other PXE Linux ports on the list.

Matt.
