Summary: Changing the home to root partition split ratio on
OpenZaurus
Product: Openembedded
Version: OpenZaurus 3.5.4.x
Platform: ARM
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P5
Component: Distributions
AssignedTo: [email protected]

After installation on SL-C700 (corgi) the internal flash card is partitioned to
a root partition- 25 MB- and a home partition- 32 MB. What is involved in
changing this ratio? I presume tweaking the update.sh script, but have no idea
how. The cacko ROM, for instance, provides options for changing the size of the
root and home partitions.
What is the reason behind this unfavorable partition split? After a clean
installation the home directory is almost empty, with the root directory with
barely a megabyte free left with the opie install. This is moderately
restrictive, since because of bug <a
href="http://bugs.openembedded.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1197">1197</a> I am forced
to use ipkg-link for all but a few tiny additional packages.
I suspect the following options might work:
1) Booting with altboot from an image file, and then repartitioning the
internal flash and writing the root filesystem over.
2) Using update.sh and the tools.tar from cacko ROM, with the OpenZaurus root
image. I'm not sure whether this won't trash my zaurus, so I haven't tried it
yet.
I would be thankful for any suggestsions or explanations.
