I'm quite aware of that, but since mickey pointed out before they really dont want to get swamped by images. So I thought of this as a middle ground. And setting through local.conf/distro is of course a good idea, but it creates some issues if you want certain packages to get included in one image but not the other.

If i've missed something, please point it out so I can hide in shame

Greetings,

Personally I would want/need the possibility of adding packages to existing
images. I was thinking we could add bootstrap-image-extrastuff and
opie-image-extrastuff and include them in the package list.

I can understand that we run a risk of adding more and more variables as
time goes by and that they should be kept to a minimum. But this could
possibly keep the amount of images to a minimum.

Ideas anyone?

It's perfectly easy to put whatever packages you want in an image.
Just create your own image bbfile and put whatever you want in it.

There are also already several package vars you could add to in
local.conf if you *really* just want to add packages to all of the
current images (see the conf/machine files or conf/distro files).
