The protected enum warning I believe has been fixed. At this time there doesn't seem to be a compelling reason to switch to Java 5 unless you require it for another aplication. I wouldn't expect the community to address improvements in code to take advantage of some of the changes made in Java 5 especially with Java 6 being in beta 2 and scheduled to be released from beta (and likely open sourced) in autumn.
