I'd say it depends on the organization and what they want to do with their suppliers. For creating purchase orders and such the information in SupplierProduct is all that really matters, though it certainly implies a relationship. There are various more "formal" relationships that could be created between a company and its suppliers but I don't know that any functionality depends on such things at this point.
