Hi all,

Quick note to share that we have finally released our own offline hotspot
device!

It’s a quite a bit of an upgrade from what’s currently on the market as it runs
on a Raspberry Pi 5, can serve up to 24 users at the same time and has been
designed for speed and sturdiness (aluminium casing with heatsink AND fan, NVMe
SSD disk which clocks at 40 times the speed of a regular SD card).

We have had a bunch of enterprising people (US preppers, for some reason) in
the past few months reselling our software as their own (it’s free/libre, so it
is more of a feature than a bug I guess) and they’re in the $200-300 range:
we’ve positioned ours at $319, shipping and taxes included to 60+ countries.

This first batch is built around topical images (preppers, medical, devstack)
of which there is an online demo that you can browse here
<https://demo.hotspot.kiwix.org/>. We are also discussing the possibility of
curating content for schools/homeschooling: any feedback or pointers in that
regard would be welcome, particularly regarding the flavours of Wikipedia that
should be included: all of it? only subsets (e.g. Geography, History, etc.)?
Only the Wikipedia for Schools selection)? Let me know your thoughts on that.

Next step will obviously be to allow for people to build and order their
personalized device with a content selection of their choice.

Anyhoo, feel free to spread the word high and wide, and send interested folks
to our product page to order:
