Never tried, though. [DEFAULT] my_list = ['a', 'b'] [<offlineimap_section>] offlineimap_option_eval = python_function( %(my_list)s ) Parsing is done by the ConfigParser library, not offlineimap itself. See https://docs.python.org/2/library/configparser.html Notice that the pythonfile can do whatever python can. So, it's possible to load the offlineimap's configuration file from the pythonfile and parse it from there. I agree this would be ugly. However, since the list is likely "static" I see no reason to put the definitions of the lists in the offlineimap configuration file instead of the pythonfile (or any other file).
