I agree and disagree with Grant here.

I dropped paradox in favor of Access nearly a year and a half ago, and apart
from some inital installation problems, I have had NO problems with
corrupted indexes like I was getting with Paradox, (under D3) and have not
had any database problems at all....so I am abit biased, as I have found
Access so good.....it has caused a few problems, but in a 2 tier (or less)
eviroment, its great, under 3 tier, its crap....THATS when you goto
something like adonis (unless you want to do all the ADO stuff your self)
etc.

Cheers, Jeremy Coulter

Subject: RE: [DUG-OFFTOPIC]: Access databases

Not sure if I can help with any white papers but I would hazard a guess
that many (most?) programmers on the DUG would have at least looked at
Access.

>From my POV, I think Access is no better or worse than any other
file-database such as Paradox, (though there are always minor and
sometimes not so minor variations in SQL & datatypes etc).
I think the more important question is do you go client/server
(Interbase/Oracle/SQL Server would be on my shortlist) or file DB
(Paradox/Access/dBase)?

If you must go file-db, (and I would recommend client/server if the
customer will pay), then my preference would probably be to go Access
via an ODBC wrapper such as Adonis (see the BDE Alternatives Guide),
simply for ease of deployment.

e-mail me directly if you want more specific advice.
