D4 Unleashed, and anything Charlie Calvert does, is generally "first looks
at..." type stuff in a chatty style. I have found his stuff good when I am
unfamiliar with a topic (sort of like reading Coles Notes at school).
I found "High Performance Delphi Programming" and "Delphi Component Writers
Guide" (Not sure of the exact title - it was mentioned last time this topic
came up) useful when I read them and am getting some stuff out of "Delphi 4
Developers Guide" at the moment (haven't read deeply yet - it's a good
book). They are all around the level this list deals at and have different
focuses.
I haven't read - but believe that "Hidden Paths of ..." books are a level up
for API etc stuff. It all depends on what you want to achieve. I tend to
read the reviews on amazon.com, and to a lesser extent barnesandnoble.com,
choose a few that look suitable and canvas opinions - as you are doing here.
(Touch wood) I haven't bought a book I didn't get something out of - yet.
