OK, Mark (and others) should be able to help here more, but the app you
are looking for is:

dosEMU

I beleive. I don't know if this allows direct hardware access (does
Linux at all? being it is a STABLE OS, unlike NT/98), but it's worth a
look.

I beleive its shipped with every version of (in my case) RedHat since
the early days - Definatly should be on the RH 6.0 disk, tho you can
also get it from the web (start at the likes of linux.com, or
sunsite.unc.edu)
