There's a known bug with the Wearnes - where they overheat at about 500mb
and give up.

Nic. I am running same H/ware spec's. and NT4 (and WINK RC-2) but mine is a
K6-400.
I have had not problems, and I am using an internal HP CDRW (7200).
I was reading in an Australia PC mag (this months one...not sure of the
mag's name) and it said the HP 7200 was they buy of the year....as far as
CDRW's go.

I used to have a Wearnes CDR but under NT, it woudl crap out when recording,
cos. NT new the cd was spinning, but didn't know why, and tried to READ the
CD....which in turn left me with 15 or so DEAD CDR's !!!

But with the HP one, its been fine !
I always recomnend the HP...its been good to me.

Hi people,

I'm looking at getting a 4x or 6x CDRW (most likely an HP Surestore type
thing), and I'm thinking IDE or SCSI. SCSI is, obviously, the better
one, but my machine is fairly packed with hardware at present (TNT2, dvd
decoder, network, sound etc etc etc) and I can't fit another PCI card
in. IDE is obviously a better option for me.

So, does anyone know of anything specificly wrong with an IDE CDRW - I
have a K6-2 350 with 128meg of RAM running NT4 (soon, maybe, 5) -
hardware resources (ie, CPU and memory) is not too much of a
problem.....

Ta
