Full embedded micropro's such as a 68032 could be programmed in anything if
you had a suitable compiler but the manufacturers only tend to supply &
support C compilers (or Forth in the case of Harris micro-pros).  

Always thought that it would be a nice idea if someone extended what Lego
did with the mind storm dev kit & provide a high level (graphical?) IDE or
CASE tool for churning out what you want the processor to do & then have it
produce the C code.

On another off-topic topic (its Friday!) would a Java interpreter be
considered a compiler if it ran on Java hardware like a picoJava processor?
