HI all,
Well actually there has been something not quite right with the Net infrastructure for
a while,
which appears to be the reason behind this situation.
You may have all heard ( because it hit the front page of the Herald ) a couple of
weeks ago
that Telecom had a problem with their Frame Relay network in Auckland. Well that was
for a
day, but since then there have been many minor outages. After a number of complaints I
set
up a system that tests the connection to our server ( at IHUG) from my Jetstream (
Xtra)
service at home. It tests the integrity of the link between my home and the server,
going
thorugh Xtra - Telecom - Ihug - and our server. When there is an outage I get a text
message
on my cellphone (tests jungledrum and vodaphone at the same time <g>). There is also a
system log I use to compare to the cellphone messages.
Well to cut a long story short, I get a fair few alerts, which indicates that the
state of the
infrastructure is not that hot all the time.
We also get a good number of bounced messages as a result of the mail server not being
able to connect to the recipient's ISP mail server, the person's mailbox being full,
and a
myriad of other reasons.
In a perfect world .......
If anyone has a problem, or thinks there may be a problem, please email
