I was under the impression some Java contractors can earn up to $80 an hour
(this was about 2 years back with the Java fever).
Pshaw, they're earning every penny.
It's a shame Delphi isn't as well-rewarded financially.
I wish Octane (their full-blown .NET Delphi product) would hurry up and be released so we'd at least be on an equal footing with our Microsoft counterparts.
Yeah, with .net & linux & windows native, Delphi (well O-P) will be as damn near future-proof as it's probably ever been. That Bold stuff sounds good too. Its taken Borland - I mean Inprise - I mean Borland a while tho...
Wonder why no one is bothering to compete with .net though? Sun still promotes Java as the wora language, but its starting to seem like its the VM that holds the actual value. Get the impression that at their best Unix + C have always had this OS independence (ie distribution across the BSD's and the Solaris's and the every other man, and his dog's unix version), and Bill just looked at that, added the ability to compile from other languages, and some safety features (straight out of the Java handbook), and the m$ ability for massive distribution - and its an easy win.
Cheers, Kurt.
