That's what I did. I initally cut down to 3 days a week working for a company and started work on some software which I sell on the Internet. After a year I cut the 3 days down to 2, and a year later, I quit the company completely to work full time at home. This was about 6 months ago.

I run my own company now, but I'm it. No employees and no deadlines. I could probably stop development for 6 months and still support my family from sales of the software. But I prefer to work through this stack of new features asked for by existing clients. The current To-Do list should take 9-12 months.

Both.

I am currently working for a company by day being paid a salary.

I am also working for my own company outside normal working hours.

I probably spend about 20 hours a week on my own stuff and the usual 40
hours a week for the company.

The plan is to build my own body of work up to a point so that I can be
self sufficient.
