you'll see its a bit more than an "HTML table with events hooked to
javascript"
I might have to look around after playing with virtual tree view I'm
looking for the same in client side javascript comp, ie a tree that can
be a grid

As for "Trees", there are lots of javascript ones around like
jsCookTree.
I wrote my own.
I haven't played with AJAX but I found jsrsClient to work well for
callbacks to the server.
