In today's OFIWG, we discussed having a more frequent and predictable release schedule for libfabric. Overall, there was agreement that the frequency and timing for the stable releases was working well. Stable releases will continue on an as-need basis, but occur roughly every 3 months.
For the major releases, there was a request to have a major release timed around Super Computing each year, plus a request to know exactly when each major release would be. There's tentative agreement for OFI to adopt the following release schedule: March, July, and November. This would begin now. This provides one additional release per year over what has been done the past couple of years, plus allows for better planning. The schedule maintains the OFIWG time based release policy.
