Just an update--- Decided to upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10 and had more success.
Finally got A2DP audio to pump successfully with the module-loopback enabled
(using bluez 4.96, pulseaudio 1:1.0-0, gnome-bluetooth 3.2.0) !
However, the HFP mode (i.e. Audio Gateway) still produces no call audio for me
:( Played with the PA Sound Profiles a bit (through the standard Ubuntu
sound-indicator GUI), noticing a "Handsfree Gateway" profile for my Phone's
sound device. Choosing this opens an audio stream (I can hear a slight hiss),
but still can't hear audio coming from the other end of the phone line. My
/etc/bluetooth/audio.conf file is set to "Enable=Source,Sink,Gateway,Control".

Tried those steps on that wiki and on the video. Still no audio coming through
the speakers. No audio on the phone either, which means it's probably making
its way to the PC, but not to the sound card.
I've attached logs from bluetoothd, ofonod, and pulseaudio from
pairing/connecting with my phone, making a call, and enabling the
module-loopback.
Any help is much appreciated!

Have a check at

The audio is handled by pulseaudio, and you need to enable loopback between
the Bluetooth stream and your mic and speaker.
