In this conversation some people have been referring to the separation of governance from operations, some are saying the separation of voting from everything else, and some are trying to not conflate functional roles from constitutional roles. I think we are all saying the same thing, but it may help to get specific so we are all on the same page as we implement the first part of a reorg. Here's a start:
Constitutional Governance: The OGB's Focus * Specifies community Membership and voting issues. * Creates and maintains Community structure and roles. * Grants access to resources via delegated team. * Mediates conflicts. * Communicates with Sun and other organizations. * Runs the OGB. Functional Operations: The Groups' Focus * Create and manage Communities, UGs, Projects (or other groups). * Associate with other groups as necessary for collaboration. * Produce documents, specs, code, products, events, etc. * Create processes to produce their own work their own way. * Follow OGB processes on Membership and resource issues. I'm sure there are many other bits to list for each, but I'm just trying to get the basic separation clear in my mind. Accurate? Jim -- http://blogs.sun.com/jimgris/
