Some notes from discussion at the meeting (during which we seem to have lost Keith from the line) and from my thoughts afterwards, some of which we may want to include in the announcement.
> In accordance with section 5.4 of the OpenSolaris Constitution, this > message shall serve as notice that the 2008 OpenSolaris Members > meeting will be held in #opensolaris-meeting on the FreeNode IRC > network[0] beginning at 2000 UTC 18 Feb 2008. > > A quorum of 1/3 of Members of record is REQUIRED by section 5.9 in > order to conduct business, including electing the new OGB. Please > plan to attend if at all possible. If a quorum is not present, we > will be unable to conduct business or elect a governing board. It was suggested that at least the first 24 hours of the meeting be allocated to the roll call for quorum, in order to allow those from all time zones to be counted. (This also allows for those in the US who are out for the President's Day holiday when the meeting starts to be counted, since 24 hours will extend until noon PST Tuesday.) Members will be required to announce themselves in channel when joining to count for the roll call, using either their Real Name or OpenSolaris.org account name, since we have no means to map IRC nicknames to our membership rolls, and since we're using an existing IRC network, cannot ensure that all members can get a nickname that matches their opensolaris.org account name. Members should also be informed that the entire contents of the channel discussion will be publicly archived as part of the record of the meeting and that they should use other channels for conversations they don't want recorded and published. It was also suggested that we include a link to the web-based IRC client that used to be on the opensolaris.org front page for those members who don't have an IRC client already set up. -- -Alan Coopersmith- alan.coopersmith at sun.com Sun Microsystems, Inc. - X Window System Engineering
