Hey Guys, I don't personally support this, but I want to clarify how this would work.
There are two ways to accomplish this: 1) Just do it. Effectively a fork. Create everything in the community space (Genunix?), get consensus on a name, and do everything without Sun. 2) Officially change the name (what you propose). This is fairly involved because it means modifying BOTH the Charter and the Constitution! I'll grant you that this currently needs to be done anyway. The other side is getting Sun to agree. Remember, Sun owns the website, we do not, therefore they must agree to it and make the appropriate changes. The website issue is significant because it means that if Sun doesn't agree the resulting ill will could make the trademark dispute look orderly. Again, I don't personally support this but as a representative of the community I'd be happy to execute on it should there be sufficient support. benr.
