Dear OGB, Could you please review this proposal to see if I can set up University of Melbourne OpenSolaris User Group?
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Proposal for University of Melbourne OpenSolaris User Group Project (UNIMELB-OSUG) Purpose: To promote OpenSolaris in the the University of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia List of Community Groups Sponsoring the project: Advocacy Community Group List of project team members: Zhiqi Tao (OS id: zhiqitao), primary contact Project Description: The purpose of this project is to promote OpenSolaris and create local community among students and researchers in the University of Melbourne. Our ultimate goal is to cultivate OpenSolaris users in University of Melbourne curriculum and related student projects, and improve campus support for OpenSolaris and related distributions primarily through free education and mutual support. We anticipate that current Unimelb faculty , staff and students may be willing to make significant contributions towards these efforts because Solaris has already dominate servers in Computer Science and Software Engineering department. The project will archive such contributions as relevant student projects, presentations, documentation, code, and other material to its project space on the OpenSolaris site. Project Needs: This project requires project space on OpenSolaris.org site. The project also requires a mailing list. Suggested list name is unimelb at opensolaris dot org. Related Projects: We plan to closely monitor the activities of MSOSUG and nearby OSUGs, as well as the local Linux and Unix user groups, in order to seek out opportunities for collaborative OpenSolaris promotion in the region. We will also actively promote Sun University Day if it would be held in our campus. Proposed activities: We plan to initiate workshops and user group meetings in University of Melbourne campus, with a focus on promoting the competitive advantages of using an OpenSolaris distribution for research, development, and teaching. Stage 1 of this will be to gather membership and further support from the university and community. Stage 2 will be active development of promotional activities, drawing both upon local experience and materials already produced by the OpenSolaris community. Further activities will be determined as demand and our community grow. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: This proposal is written with reference of BTN-OSUG proposal http://mail.opensolaris.org/pipermail/ogb-discuss/2007-July/002156.html -- Kind Regards, Zhiqi Tao Sun Campus Ambassador University of Melbourne, Australia Mobile: +61 406 690 448 Email: zhiqi.tao at gmail.com <zhiqi.tao at sun.com> zhiqi.tao at sun.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
