To me, getting involved in a user group is the easiest thing someone can 
do. Very low barrier of entry, in other words. You show up to a meeting, 
hang out, meet other OpenSolaris people, share your experiences 
(technical or non-technical), and then participate on the ug- list 
between meetings. Also,  I find the best UGs are /social/ groups first 
and /technology/ groups second. That could just be my perspective, though.

I agree totally. But it's a multi step process, that's all, just as it 
is in any community. In order for someone to have a voice at that level 
he/she has to participate actively enough to become a 
contributor/member, etc and earn his/her own way. But the notion that 
users participating in user groups should have a say in the community is 
very important.

Agree. It's basic community development (which includes marketing), and 
it's important that we consider both the technical and non-technical 
aspects to the community. Good points ...
