What sorts of projects would an x86/64 community endorse? How would
it direct them?

I can understand a platform community, because the projects it would
endorse are those that allow one to run OpenSolaris on a particular
platform. That would include common drivers (VM, memory management,
console access, and booting, for a few examples) and kernel
portability issues. Other things not related to the platform itself
-- such as networking and video drivers -- would be done elsewhere.

The lines seem fairly clear to me.

Would an x86/64 community also endorse application level projects?

Perhaps I'm being dense, but I think that writing code that makes
OpenSolaris run on a platform does sound like a valid technology area.

No, particularly if there are common problems to be solved.
