Given that I am the new guy on the block in the Advocacy Community, I'll defer to your guidance here. It seems to have support (several +1's, no -1 - yet), and I am serious about wanting to get this topic nailed down, but I don't want to ram anything (more) down your throats :-) For this to be an effective project, it needs to be endorsed by a bunch of Communities, and populated by a representative set of contributers from them. I'd consider this proposal to be incomplete until that aspect has been addressed. -John Here is my updated draft proposal: Short Name Trademark and Branding Sponsoring Communities Advocacy ? OGB ? ON/Nevada ? Desktop ? Appliances ? ... ? Initial participants John Plocher Sara Dornsife Teri Molini Ian Murdock Eric Boutiller Al Hopper Shawn Walker Simon Phipps Any OGB members interested? Any Indiana participants interested? Anyone else interested? Description: This project is chartered to develop a Trademark usage and Branding guideline policy that covers the use of the OpenSolaris Trademark. Once developed and approved by the project members, the proposed policy will be submitted to the OpenSolaris Community Membership for a formal vote. If the policy is approved, it will apply to all use of the OpenSolaris trademark, both within and outside of the OpenSolaris Community, specifically including Sun Microsystems. If it is not approved, this project will, at the sole discretion of Sun's delegated trademark and branding owners (Sara, Ian and Teri?), either attempt to create a new policy for adoption, or disolve this project and leave the OpenSolaris Trademark usage policy definition to Sun. Once and if an initial policy is adopted, this project will continue as the policy-maintainer of record, with the expectation that minor changes to the policy will be dealt with without requiring Community re-ratification, but that major changes (especially ones that take away usage rights or grant exclusive rights) will be brought to the entire OpenSolaris Community for re-ratification.
