To OGB, Sun/Oracle mgmt

Please consider to fix the confusion what project Indiana has started. As I
said previously, when project Indiana was created, this was a mistake and it
was way too confusing for outside users, the entire community and to Sun
itself.I sent at that time a short proposal where Sun could have used
opensolaris.org as the main source of the operating system and let the
community build itself the reference distro. Im sending again this one now,
last time.

Cheers,
Stefan

In order to fix current open issues with OpenSolaris distribution consider
implementing the
following:

1. The community itself should create and maintain a reference distribution,
called XXX with
help from vendor, Oracle. The distribution and the content published under its
site should be
outside Oracle's premises and control. This way the community can govern and
manage itself
without creating pressures to vendor or other parties.

Example: RedHat - Fedora. Fedora is a open source project hosted outside of
RedHat
maintained by community but sponsored by RedHat. "The Fedora Project is
maintained and driven by the community and sponsored by Red Hat. This is a
community maintained site. Red Hat is not responsible for content."

2. OGB should govern the new distro and maintain constant communication towards
vendor. The vendor should support this initiative by dedicating developers and
resources.
OGB should engage and collaborate with other hdw vendors, in order to attract
new users
and sponsors. This way the project will grow and the community will stay around
happy.

3. Both sides will benefit from this clear model and focus on their priorities.
Currently model
does not work and simple creates bad publicity, fud. Implementing current
model, the vendor can entirely focus on their business model, committing from
time to time source code and participating with engineers to this initiative.
The community as well will benefit having their own governing rules and
releases as they please.

In my opinion this is the way to ensure the survival of OpenSolaris, which Sun
unfortunattely
did not implement correctly. I hope current vendor might listen and proper
handle this problem.
