What do you mean? Are you asking how much we pay the
artist for illustrations? If so, there are tons of
variables. A full color cover is way more than
interior line art which is more than pencils. Plus,
start-up companies usually get the artist to work with
them on art costs on the first couple products. I cant
really give you good figures since I contract with
artists WW uses, so there is an established business
relationship there that would affect the rates. But
here are some ballpark numbers:
A full color cover will be 800-1000. More if you go
with a recognized name.
Interior half page line art (pen and ink) can be 100
per drawing. 1/4 page line art can be as low as 40 per
drawing.
The best way to do it is talk to the artist and
explain you are a start up and work with them on
alternative ways to bill or reasons to give you a
break. d20 is huge now and will provide a national
platform for exposure for the artist.
