<< Actualy, the total lack of Scientist/Engineer/Techno class in the core
SW rules is a VERY glaring omission. I wanted to create a sort of
'Scotty of Tatooine' and found I couldn't do it. >>

Best I could do in Star Wars was, believe it or not, a Scoundrel. They get
the most skill points, and the technical skills are all class skills for
them. It means I have an engineer who's good at illicit barter and will some
day be good at sneak attacks, which really don't fit the concept well at
all.

<< Nor could I easily
create a medic or a Dr. Huer type. I'm tempted to write up a
'Technician' class under the OGL 'for use in any science-fiction genre
game'. >>

Please do (whenever D20 becomes OGL).
