What about sourcebooks? I have a great idea for a campaign setting that a friend and I have developed and run. Are you (or anyone else) accepting campaign sourcebook submissions?

John-
In response to your question, I might as well spill a few beans about Necromancer (and SSS) plans.
You should note that Sword and Sorcery Studio is accepting open submissions for the Creature Collection 2--The Dark Menagerie. Details can be found on their web site (www.swordsorcery.com). That is probably the best opportunity to submit your monsters. There is at least one other d20 company doing a monster book (listed on Eric Noah's site, though I dont recall the name, and it looks pretty cool) but I dont know if they are taking submission.
Here is the big news:
We havent done a formal announcement yet (that will come in February), but Necromancer is now accepting module submissions. I figured I might as well mention it to the list in case anyone here wants to get a jump on things. Submission guidelines are in the works but if you want to get started, here is what we are looking for:
We are accepting submissions for adventure modules that will, when completed, run between 32 and 64 pages in length in print. We want adventures. Dungeons. Towns. Whatever. Set in a generic fantasy setting. Just like you would submit to Dungeon Magazine.
We do not want world books or extended supplements. Nor is Necromancer going to be doing "monster books" or "spell books." That is the domain of Sword and Sorcery Studios. We do not want wild rule variants or compilations of prestiege classes. Of course, you can feel free to invent items or monsters or spells and make them a part of the adventure. We want pure d20 stuff.
If you have an idea or even a partially completed manuscript, here is what we want the submission to include:
1. A short treatment or summary of the adventure (no more than 3 or 4 pages) detailing the setting, plot, characters, NPCs, challenges to be faced, goals/rewards and appropriate adventurer level. This is key to us deciding if we like your "idea" so sell us on that here.
2. Then we want you to fully detail one or two encounters from the proposed module. Use the submission guidelines and format from Dungeon Adventures Magazine (it is posted on their web site, http://www.wizards.com/dungeon/article.asp?x=submissions). You probably will want to pick up a copy of a Dungeon magazine to see the format. This is where you sell us on your skills as a writer and an adventure designer. We like combat, so be creative. And dont be afraid to make it DEADLY. We strive to be very complete in our descriptions of encounters for our readers, so dont skimp on the "Tactics" information.
Note: If you already have a more complete manuscript prepared (more than just one or two encounters) go ahead and send that, but please do the treatment as detailed in item 1 above. You dont have to trim your work for the submission.
3. Keep in mind: our slogan is "Third Edition Rules, First Edition Feel" so please try to think about and include elements in your adventure that meet this slogan. You might also want to explain in your treatment how that slogan is met by your submission.
4. Please save your submission as a Word document. If that is a problem, email me and ask for advice on alternative formats.
5. Attach the document to an email and send it directly to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] In your email please put "submission" in the subject line. Also, in your email please indicate your full name, mailing address and phone number (optional) where you can be reached. Also indicate the working title of the adventure and the page length you anticipate it being when completed. Use existing modules for comparison.
6. Please do your best to present the submission in a professional manner, well edited and proofed. You pros out there already know this, but just in case there are any "newbies" I cant stress enough that "neatness counts." We will be making decisions based both on the content you present and on how you present the content. Believe me, you can tell alot about an author by their submissions.
7. Please restrict yourself to a basic font (times, arial, etc). No funky fonts. Even in the title. We have layout guys to do all that stuff. Plus it is harder to read that way.
You retain all rights to your submission and you are free to submit it elsewhere. Please, however, let me know if you are doing so. It has no bearing on whether we decide to accept the submission or not, it just prevents problems down the line. If any of you are uncomfortable with this, let me know.
Also, the rate of pay has not yet been decided, though we will certainly treat our authors well. You also get author credit right on the cover of the module. For example, take our modules Crucible of Freya or Rappan Athuk. They say "by Clark Peterson and Bill Webb." They would say "by [you]" right on the cover for submission we accept. We take what is called a developer and producer role. Necromancer, by paying you, gets the rights to the work.
We will review the submissions. We may either contract with you to develop the module or we may offer an option to develop the idea. Dont be discouraged if it takes a while to hear back from us.
Remember, this isnt the formalized submission process yet, it is simply me giving you all (the cool d20 people on this list) the first shot at submissions to Necromancer Games. Dont worry, you wont be penalized for submitting under this informal procedure. If anything, it will work to your advantage since we are looking for quality stuff right away for release as early as August of this year!
If you have any questions, please email me directly. I appreciate the list indulging this open call.
Thanks! And I look forward to your submissions.
