martin-

great question. i am in the same position. my other writer and i have playtested our
first three products under second edition rules but i really want to playtest any
changes we make to our products under third edition rules.

i was presuming the playtesters will also have to sign NDAs though i wasnt planning on
giving them the PHB manuscript other then as needed to make characters.

so ryan, if you are reading this, pass it on to legal that we will need playtester
NDAs too (assuming wotc wants them).

This question is really for Ryan, but we all need to consider it: assuming I
fulfill the NDA and receive a 3E PHB preview and related D20 materials, how
do I playtest my stuff? Does playtesting with a circle of close friends
violate the NDA? What about with a group of random strangers at the local
Wizards game store?
