It has recently come to my attention that several of the companies and
individuals who are getting ready to release Open Gaming Content with or
without the D20 System trademarks have posted emails and are hosting web
sites that improperly use our trademarks.
Here are the simple rules at this stage of the process:
You cannot use trademarks from our settings including NPC names, setting
names, names of towns, etc. Generally speaking, if the word is a proper
noun, it is a trademark reserved by us. Obviously, public domain names are
not included in that scope.
You cannot use the "Dungeons & Dragons" trademark.
No use of our graphic logos or artwork for a commercial product is ever
permissible without a license.
If you are improperly using one of these marks, please alter your marketing
and web sites to remove those references. If in doubt, look for a "TM" or
Circle (R) indicia on our products - without a license from Wizards of the
Coast, you cannot use those marks in commercial activity. To check the
status of registered trademarks, you can look at
http://trademarks.uspto.gov/access/search-mark.html
Note, a mark that has not been registered may still be claimed by us, or may
be in the process of registration.
Thanks for your help and attention to this matter.
