I had the same result. In fact, I had to restart my machine. There has to be
some preference to not allow this to happen... >>

Now that I understand what was happening, I suspect that "locked up" may
have been an exaggeration in my case. How many messages to you have in your
system? As long-time Alternity list readers will attest, I am notoriously
bad at cleaning up and maintaining my email. At this moment, for example, my
Inbox alone has 14896 messages, 5575 of them unread. [INSERT DERISIVE
COMMENT HERE.] I have found that, in cases where my machine loses power
while Outlook is open, it takes many minutes to start up when I restart the
machine. I assume it's doing some sort of fix-up on its database. Maybe the
Recall causes that sort of database reorganization.
