Subject: [Open_Gaming] digital pirates and other sailors.

<< I'm really somewhat disheartened to think that those of you who are
producing games, think that alot of gamers are thieves. At least that's what
your comments seem to be indicating. >>

Examples from other fields would make any publisher very leery of trusting
to the good will of the consumer. Twelve years ago, there were an average of
four copies in use for any one copy of the average software title. (I'll bet
it's worse now, with computers more common.) I told this to one of our
investors, who was also in the sheet music publishing business. He laughed
himself silly. "Only four? We have to deal with twenty or thirty!"

And for that matter, it's hard even trusting the good will of PRODUCERS. I
know many a software developer who appeared to be violating the IP roghts of
other developers (though getting indignant if anything interfered with HIS
paycheck).

So no disrespect is intended. It's simply a matter of assuming that past
experience is predictive of future experience.
