Actually I think it should be kept simple and easily recognizable.
Everyone on the list seems to like the open die (which is a cool concept),
and dice are usually associated with games so it works.
Of course if the logo become open, anyone can use any background image
they want.
As an aside, my lovely wife noticed that the one spot is noticeable on
the inside of the cube while the other spots are only noticeable on the
outside of the cub. She thinks the spots from the "four" side (opposite the
"three" side) and the spots on the "five" side (opposite the "two" side)
should be visible on the inside of the box as well. Just her 2 cents worth.

Let me rephrase this before everybody jumps all over it.
If you really want to encompass more games put a montage of game pieces
underneath it (a card, a chess piece, etc...)
