Not if they download a full copy of the SRD.....
They don't even *need* to buy the books. Admittedly owning the PHB would be
useful, but a single page on xp advancement is very easy to re-type, xerox,
or scan. Yes, I know, that would be against the law.
We all know how resourceful gamers can be.
