Yet these same people refer to WotC products under

WotC doesn't want people to refer to their products

exploiting a loophole in the OGL is not only
acceptable behavior but praised by some in the

Kal, rather than adopting some goofy "it limits
creativity and freedom" stance, here is an idea:
actually go try to make something. Then you will see
what the PI is for.
Because guess what, YOU DONT HAVE TO DESIGNATE ANY OF
YOUR STUFF PI IF YOU DONT WANT TO. NO ONE DOES. IT IS
UP TO THE CREATOR. IF YOU WANTED TO RELEASE EVERYTHING
AS OPEN CONTENT YOU COULD. So where is the freedom
constrained? You are "free" to open all your stuff up.
And without the license the stuff people would make
would be their copyrighted material that you couldnt
use anyway. So what is constrained? Nothing!
For example. Lets say there was no d20 license and no
OGL. And lets say Sword and Sorcery put out the
Creature Collection and decided to say "compatible
with D&D" and we went through a big legal battle.
Guess what, YOU still couldnt use the setting stuff
from the Creature Collection. That is basically all we
PI'd anyway. So how is that different from what
happens under the OGL? It isnt! If anything, you as a
developer have MORE access to stuff we release under
the OGL than you would under general copyright law.
The OGL actually encourages the distribution of
content that others can use.
You argument is lame.
Put your money where your mouth is and make something
of some significance and release it as all open
content--setting and everything. Not just shit you
couldnt copyright anyway. Something of substance with
some value. A world or a setting or something like
that.
Then I will take your rant seriously.

while. For those of you new to the list, Kal and I
argue about this about once every three months)
