Apparently I understand as much of the term 'OPEN' as you understand the
concept of 'Product Identity' and 'Intellectual Property'

While I have no problem with the idea of releasing product as Open, I do
respect the rights of designers and creators to hold some of their material
and work under protection. If for no other reason than the occassional
malicious use of their product that could occur. With PI established, they
will have legal recourse at that point.

Lets say for the sake of arguement that you release an entire world,
completely open. And for the same sake of arguement, lets say I get a hair
in my ass and decide I want to utterly screw with your work.. so I set up a
web page which introduces storeline concepts and changes you never intended.
My site becomes popular, even moreso than your product pages.. suddenly I
have 'hijacked' your world.. Or in another example, I could release, at
relatively low cost, crappy expansion after expansion to intentionally bring
negativity to your product. As an Open product, with NO PI at all, what is
in place to protect you from such occurances?

That said, I will again state that I see nothing wrong with people who want
to release product that is totally OPEN.. nor do I see anything wrong with
people who want to release material that has PI to protect their work.

Hell, if the interest is in place, I would gladly work with a team of folks
who want to create an entire world from scratch and make it open.. I have
the core tools to do so.. Campaign Cartographer and all the expansions to
create the world, populate it, etc.. I will gladly generate a world and
release it to a site that will host it and everyone can design the world
around that.. adding cities, races, monsters and such. All the files I
generate will be given freely to anyone who wants to use them, and the
entire project would be under an Open umbrella. I do not have the time to
set up the pages, and act as a project lead however.. someone else will have
to helm this particular ship. My point is I am fully willing to try the
grand experiment and see what happens.
