I saw the original too. the point is, when he went back to the vast
majority of the authors, OGL in hand, they balked. The chief complaint was
(while they definitely wanted to share) they didn't want their work to end
up lining some game producer's pocket.
They wanted a "Free20" license.

I did not think any of them were much more overpowered than, say, the Power
Attack + Great Cleave + Improved trip combination. Pretty damn close to
unplayable.
